Looking forward to Notacon 2010,

This will be my first time at Notacon and I anticipate the new surprises that await. I know about the 40+ presentations on Friday and Saturday but can anyone suggest other things that are going on during Notacon (something hands-on would be awesome) ?

I will be driving with a friend from Huntingburg, IN.
We just reserved a room with two beds.
We have room for one or two more if you would like to sleep on a pull out mattress or floor.
We are looking to cut costs.
Will be arriving at check in time(3:00p.m.) on the 16th, staying the 17th, and will be out of the room by noon on the 18th.
We plan staying, we just don't want to spend the extra on a third night.
Sleep in the car if necessary

I can't begin to describe how awesome it is to be at a demoparty where all these really fucking creative people just open up. Take our friend, mad brain for instance. He's kinda shy and I don't really hear him talk too much but starting with the old-school music compo he just clicked and started dancing mad. His glasses flew across the room at one point. The energy that came from him was awesome. I've never seen it before. It was like this for practically everyone. Everyone opened up and beams of energy came from their eyeballs like fucking laser-beams. A lot of hard work went into this demoparty and it's creators are by in large is also it's audience. It's a really interesting dynamic and everyone had an awesome time

I'm leaving from the Boston area on Thursday around 8 in the morning. My plan is to drive Rt 90 pretty much the whole way, powered by caffeine and industrial music. This takes about 10 hours, for those not sure what they are getting into. I could take one or two people if they are traveling fairly light.

Similarly, I'm coming back to the Boston area on Sunday if anyone needs a ride back.

Talk-around frequencies: 446.100 and 146.415 MHz, which will be linked by a crossband repeater. If you have a choice, UHF will probably propagate through the building better and let you stretch your battery longer.

Talk-in, tentative: 146.880, negative offset, 110.9 Hz PL tone - I'm not certain that it'll be practical to monitor this as well, but we'll give it a shot.

It looks like we're going to have the crossband repeater, an APRS station, and the HF control station, and maybe a rig monitoring the talk-around or talk-in frequency, all in the Roxy room.

The exam session, as before, starts at 9:00 AM Sunday.

Processing camp preview / testing request (no replies)

If anyone would like to preview \ help test the material for the processing camp I'll be leading, head to

and grab the contents of the folders that start with 'BP'. Stick those somewhere.
Then install Processing from processing.org.

this one is the important one to test, it's the basis that pretty much everything will build on. -> [apparentlythisispossible.com]

It won't need any additional libraries and should just work on your system (mac/linux/win) with the core processing install.
It'll require some sort of sound input. Java's pretty good about finding your laptop mic but ubuntu gave me grief (as in static) when I tried to get a usb mic working.

Tell me what works, and what doesn't! It's all helpful.

I just reserved the last room at the Wyndham in the block for NAC6. It's a suite, so there's plenty of room to share, if you need a place. Pay what you like/can to help. I have the room from Wednesday the 16th through Sunday the 19th.

I went to make reservations today (I'm a slowpoke, I know) and the website would not let me make a reservation that included Thursday night. When I made one for Friday-Sunday, it took it just fine. Even when I made it for Thursday night only, it rejected my request and said no rooms available. If you're planning on staying at the Wyndham, you had better made your reservations quick as it appears the rooms are almost gone!

Wow--what a weekend. Notacon, in its 5th iteration, has yet to disappoint me. Thank you so very much from everyone that came and participated in making Notacon what it is. Everyone was (mostly) well-behaved and the hotel staff didn't throw any thing at me. So Kudos.

I hope that our level of service was second to none BUT in the event that it was I would like you all to let me know what we can do better next year.

This is the thread to do that in.

Please post ANY thoughts you have no matter HOW minuscule on what we can do to make it a better conference for all involved parties and I will personally make sure that we address all issues at the next core staff meeting.

I would like to borrow just a bit of room to sleep on a hotel room floor - one night or two. I need less than 2 square meters. I have a sleeping bag and can bring a pillow, towel and all other necessary items. I am willing to pay you and I promise to not get in your way. I am not a bum, I was just too late to register for a room at the hotel - all booked up.

I promise not to be a bit of trouble, and am very clean and noise free. I am into unix, OpenPGP (identity, crypto, and anon stuff), locksport, radio stuff (I am a General class Ham), filesystems, drum n bass, and greenhouse agriculture. I work and study at NC State Univ. in Agricultural and Biological engineering. Myself and Zip from our NC2600 group will be driving up and we didn't know how many people were going till the last minute and by then all the rooms were gone.

Interested to split? As little as one bit of floor for one of us for one night would be a super offer. If you could host two of us that would be great. We are both easy to get along with.

If you go for it and something doesn't work out - I am happy to leave at your request at any time. I promise not to wreck or steal any of your gear.

Name the price it would be worth to you.... If you are just one in a large room, we can make it better for both of us.
